More ‘Wilde’ Night Plans

January 8, 2013:  Plans are falling into place for the annual “Oscar Wilde:  Honoring the Irish in Film” event which will be held on 21 February at J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company in Santa Monica.   Colin Farrell, currently starring in Martin McDonagh’s Seven Psychopaths, will be honored.  More honorees will be named at a later date.   J.J. will emcee.  Heathers and Declan O’Rourke will perform.

Renowned Irish photographer John Minihan will participate by taking black and white photos of guests on his Rolleiflex camera.  John is known for his iconic photos of Princess Diana, Samuel Beckett, Francis Bacon, Ray Charles, and many others.  John’s participation is sponsored by Kildare Village Chic Outlet Shopping.  To see some of John’s photos and learn about Kildare Village:  http://bit.ly/UHeLV5.

In partnership with Tourism Ireland, American Airlines, the Doyle Collection, Kildare Village, and Dooley Car Rental, a trip for two to Ireland will be given away during the evening.

There will also be a whiskey tasting of Tullamore D.E.W., a triple-distilled, unique blend of all three types of Irish whiskey - pot still, malt and grain.  The brand has won an impressive 31 gold medals in the last 10 years and most recently in November, the 10 Year Old Single Malt was awarded “Best Irish Whiskey of the Year” at the third annual New York International Spirits Competition.  This Single Malt is the only Irish whiskey to be matured in four different cask types: Bourbon casks, followed by finishing in Sherry, Madeira and Port casks.

The event was created by the US-Ireland Alliance to allow people in the entertainment fields in the US and Ireland to meet. Alliance president Trina Vargo noted that many partnerships have resulted:  “Last year, Kevin Baillie, and Northern Ireland-born Laura Livingstone, of the special effects company Atomic Fiction attended the event.  They are now working on the special effects for one of Bad Robot’s high-profile projects.  Company founder Baillie added, "the 2012 Oscar Wilde event was a huge boon for us at Atomic Fiction."

Major sponsors of the Oscar Wilde event are American Airlines and Accenture. To see the full list of sponsors and committee members:  http://bit.ly/UUlTOX
