Daisy Ridley to be honored at Oscar Wilde Awards
January 20, 2016: Daisy Ridley will be honored at the Oscar Wilde Awards on 25 February. In 2014, she was cast as the heroine, Rey, in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. She will reprise her role in the eighth Star Wars film, due to be released next year. The British actress with Irish ancestry, director J.J. Abrams and actor Mark Hamill shot the film’s final, stunning scene on Skellig Michael, the breath-taking island located off the west coast of Ireland. Ridley is repped by Hylda Queally, the CAA agent who is also on the Advisory Board of the US-Ireland Alliance, the non-profit organization behind the annual event.
Abrams emcees the event, which has been held in recent years at his Bad Robot production company in Santa Monica. Alliance founder and president Trina Vargo noted that “this year’s event is more popular than ever given the fantastic showing by the Irish in terms of Oscar nominees and the STAR WARS connection, not to mention a performance by Snow Patrol,” the Northern Irish band which will also be honored at the event. James Corden, this year’s “honorary” Irishman, is sure to bring the laughs (as did previous honorees Stephen Colbert and Conan O’Brien). It was announced earlier this week that Irish actress Sarah Greene will also be honored and up-and-coming Irish singer Roisin O will also perform at the event which always includes great food from Limerick-born Richard Mooney’s Kensington Caterers.
Accenture and Resurgent Film Group, led by Irishman Des Carey, are the main sponsors of the event.
