Carolina Chavez brings to the position more than a decade of experience in international scholarships.  For the past six years, she served in the Department of State as a Program Manager for the Fulbright Program in five countries in the Western Hemisphere. In that capacity, she managed the exchange of U.S. and foreign students and scholars; reviewed and approved applications; established and monitored program budgets; maintained program statistics; and worked with program partners to address and proactively resolve issues with grantees.  She identified and developed opportunities where the Fulbright program could meet specific public diplomacy objectives, working with Fulbright Commissions and U.S. Embassies across the region.  For four years prior to that, she was Program Manager in the Europe and Eurasia Programs Branch, where she oversaw over $5 million in cooperative agreements and grants for graduate and undergraduate exchange programs in more than ten countries in the region.  In that capacity, she developed two U.S.-based summer institutes for first-generation Western Europeans to create a more diverse candidate pool for future Fulbright competitions.  Carolina obtained her undergraduate degree in Public Relations and graduate degree in International Relations at Syracuse University.
