Tuesday, 13 June 2017.  Special thanks to Irish Ambassador Dan Mulhall and Acting US Ambassador to the UK, Lewis Lukens, for coming out to meet Mitchell Scholar/author Winnie Li.  We held a reception for her book, Dark Chapter, in the lovely Heaney Library at the Doyle Collection’s Bloomsbury Hotel in London.  Una Fox, Alliance Advisory Board member and Disney exec, had a conversation with Winnie for our gathered guests.  Also happy, as always, to work with Caroline McLaughlin of Morgan Stanley on our guest list.

Winnie is a Mitchell Scholar, Class of 2001. She studied at University College Cork and later moved to London (where she is now doing a PhD at LSE).  In 2008, the US-Ireland Alliance held a conference to mark the 10th anniversary of the Belfast Agreement.  In addition to the Agreement’s negotiators, many Mitchell alums, including Winnie, came to Belfast for the event.  The following day, Winnie was walking in a park in West Belfast and was raped by a stranger.  Winnie’s novel, based on the incident has just been published.

In addition to talking with Una, Winnie read from the book, took questions and signed copies for guests.
