Mitchell Scholar Alum Part of Oscar Award Nominated Team
February 15, 2006
While the George J. Mitchell Scholarship program is only a few years old, we are delighted that an alum from our inaugural class (Class'01) is involved in a short film nominated this year for an Academy Award.
As a Mitchell Scholar, Winnie Li studied English at University College Cork. After her year in Cork, she moved to London and started work with Ugly Ducking Films. Winnie was an integral part of CASHBACK, a short film nominated for an Academy Award, and is Associate Producer of the feature-length version of CASHBACK, which has just been completed. Last year Winnie produced VAGABOND SHOES, her first short film at Ugly Duckling Films in London. An 18-minute musical drama that explores one night in the life of a homeless man, the film was nominated for Best Short Film by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Scotland and won the Audience Choice Award at the NYC Shorts Film Festival 2005. CONGRATULATIONS WINNIE!
